Monday Motivation: Are you a Bouncer or a Splatter?

It’s that time of year again.  Everyone you know will start making “resolutions” to do things differently or to make changes in their lives or to be better than we were last year.  I know our hearts are always in the right place but let me just be honest for a minute. Most of us will fall off the wagon, so to speak, within the next few weeks or months.  It’s going to happen.  Accept it and be prepared for it.  Now, before you think this is a post about how we’re all going to fail on our New Year’s resolutions, let me just ask this questions.  When you fall off the wagon, (and it will happen) or when things don’t go as planned, will you be able to persevere? Will you become a bouncer or a splatter? Well, what’s the difference? A Splatter hits rock bottom, falls apart and sticks like glue. A Bouncer hits rock bottom and bounces back. […]

Monday Motivation:Finding Peace

I had so many different things that I had been thinking about posting today.  Most of those things had something to do with the upcoming holidays and  I hadn’t planned on taking too much of a serious tone for this week’s Monday motivation, but then Friday came.  It started out as any normal day for me.  I got my oldest boys out the door to the bus and finished getting the other two ready to go with me to run errands.  It was busyness like normal until around noon when I got home and turned on my computer.  The tragedy of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting was everywhere and my heart sank.  I sat there staring at my computer in disbelief. The rest of the day was slow as molasses as I sat and watched the clock and time seemed to stand still as I waited for school to be over for the day.  As word started coming in of so many babies dying that day, I just wanted my babies to be home and safe with our family. My mind and heart couldn’t believe the things I was seeing and reading.  How could someone do this to babies?  And how can our hearts heal when something like that has happened?  I’ve been praying for peace for all of the victims families as well as all of the children, teachers, police officers and paramedics who had to witness this tragedy first hand.  Their lives will be changed forever.  All of our lives will be changed forever.  The news saddened me as an American citizen but the news devastated me as a mother. Monday Motivation: Thankful for the Small Things

Can you believe that it is already time for Thanksgiving??  I am seriously having a hard time believing that it is already here.  It seems like I have been SO busy and since I am constantly on the run the holidays have caught me by surprise!  But I AM thankful for a week that reminds me to slow down and express my gratitude for the small things I have.  I have a lot to be thankful for and this year especially I have realized that life doesn’t have to be perfect or always go the way we plan to be wonderful.  And I am so thankful for the small day-to-day things that make life fun and exciting.  I’m trying to be better at slowing down and having the opportunity for more of those little moments with my kids. Some of the every day little things that I am grateful for: […]

16 Things Moms of Boys Know

I don’t think anyone is truly prepared for what is in store when they become a parent for the first time but for a mom to boys it may seem like you have been zapped onto another planet.   How can these little people be so busy or so messy ALL the time?  There is no manual that can possibly prepare you to raise boys but here are a few things all moms of boys learn from on-the-job experience that can help others understand a bit more what our life is like. 16 Things Moms of Boys Know […]

Monday Motivation:Dealing with Motherhood Anxiety

**This was a  somewhat difficult post for me to write because it is very personal in nature  but from talking to friends and other moms I know that it needs to be talked about more.  Anxiety is something I have learned to deal with and overcome and hopefully my thoughts on the topic can help another mom or person who may be going through it right now.  Having anxiety doesn’t mean you’re crazy,  and although it may not seem like anything can help, there are things that can be done to make life better and to even help you overcome those feelings completely.  If you know someone dealing with anxiety, feel free to share this post with them and let them know they are not alone in their feelings.  And please don’t take my thoughts as medical advice.  These things have helped me, but please see a doctor if you are having severe anxiety. ** From the day I was born I believe I had anxious tendencies.  I was a big thinker and because of that I often thought myself into a heap of anxiety when I would let my imagination get the best of me.  For example, if my parents left us with a sitter and weren’t home at the exact minute they said they would be, every worst-case scenario would go through my head.  What would start as a thought that maybe they got lost or ran out of gas, would quickly evolve into something completely irrational.  And since those were the days before cell-phones, I would sit staring out the window and worrying myself sick until they got home. Monday Motivation: Stop and Smell the Roses

Last week’s Monday Motivation was all about ways to juggle all of the demands of motherhood.  But, today I realized that in thinking of ways to juggle all of my daily tasks, I’ve been leaving out something important.  Today I had a simple reminder that I haven’t been taking the time to stop and smell the roses, or pay attention to the daily activities that might just mean the most to my boys.  I’ve been too busy running around and living my life by my to-do list that I forgot that some of the  most important things normally don’t even make it on the list, but jump out at us when we really might think that we don’t have time for them.   I was getting out of the shower and heard a little voice at the door asking if I was done yet because he had a surprise for me.  I got dressed and went out into my bedroom to find this: […]
