Thanks for the great ideas! I was thinking our little family would start a new tradition this year: on Christmas Eve, we take a 'journey to Bethlehem' and dress up and have a Bethlehem dinner (maybe by oil lamp light) and then a nice evening ending with the Christmas story in Luke. I love that you leave Santa in- I do too. My Dad always read the Polar Express before bedtime and it was magical. I plan on doing that on Christmas Eve too. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for this post! I have struggled a bit with how much my children focus on the Santa part of Christmas while I am trying to emphasize Christ. It can feel like the two are in conflict, but like you said, the spirit of giving is in both aspects. I love the nativity toy ideas you shared. I am going to have to get one for my kids because they always want to play with and handle my nativity decorations. I guess that is a good thing. :) I appreciate the time you took to share this. Merry CHRISTmas!

When I was little, I would ask my parents where Santa came from. They replied that Santa was an ordinary man until God called him to be the Santa we know today. God saw how the children in the world needed to feel His love, so he asked Saint Nick to give each of them a present on Christmas morning. God wanted the children to see these presents as a reminder of the most gift of all-Jesus Christ. I plan on using this same idea for my kids. Hope you like it!

I love sharing the symbols of Christmas with my boys. I think I have that in a poem somewhere that I should definitely dig out. Thanks for the reminder!

Great Idea's Kara, thanks for sharing. I do many of those but I love your magnet advent nativity calendar. I am so going to have to get one. A tradition I really enjoy is talking about the symbolism of our Christmas tree and decorations. How they relate to the true meaning of Christmas. We sometimes do it as we are decorating the tree or after the tree is decorated we sit back and talk as we look at the tree and point to the different decorations. It really helps us stay focused and as we look at the tree we remember so much more. I have found poems and I even have a picture framed that says Santa whispered, "Teach the Children the true meaning of Christmas" Then it list "The Star: A heavenly sign of prophecy fulfilled long ages ago~the shining hope of mankind." We read each item and discuss in more detail. We all enjoy it. Some symbolic idea's the color Red, Fir Tree, the bell, the candle(lights), gift bows, candy cane, and the wreath. There is so much true meaning of Christmas in the symbolism of our Christmas tree!!!
