I love ‘You Are Special” such a wonderful message! I try to teach my kids to find happiness and value looking inward instead of outward. It is great to be recognized by the world, but it is not as important as feeling good about themselves.

I LOVE this book and so does my daughter. I have a hard time reading it without choking up a little. Right now I have a difficult time getting one-on-one time with my daughter. It’s just the two of us every day while the baby is napping but she really isn’t interested in me then. She only wants my attention when he’s awake. Kids are fun like that 😉 But there are “I love yous” and kisses and cuddles about a million times a day. Eventually we’ll get the quality time thing right.

I like to have my kids hear me pray for them. I mention them specifically and anything that is going on in their world, so they know that I am thinking of them and want the best for them. It’s a way to show them I love them and want Heavenly Father to bless and watch over them too.
I LOVE this book, my in-laws gave one to each of my children when they were born. I’m going to pass on that tradition to my grandchildren.

That sounds like an awesome book and what great advice to go along with it. I need to work on making sure we get one-on-one time, sometimes I forget just how important that is.

I think it’s important to also teach humility. Unfortunately what these “stickers” tend to do is create an ego among some kids and they never learn the art of being humble. We should all be proud of our achievements and hear we are special but also know that sometimes not being the best/smartest/coolest/most awesome is okay. We can’t all be winners (even though as an adult sometimes that feeling really stinks) in the world but we can be good people. I occasionally struggle with that but I’m trying.

Great post, and I will be sharing, since every parent can benefit from these reminders. My son is only 2 1/2, but I’m already worried about the future – I remember just how cruel kids can be, and how easily it is to let those stickers “stick”. I think I need to find this book! Thanks for sharing!

This is by far one of my favorite books EVER! I bought a copy for each of my girls when they were born, and I have them with their baby keepsakes. Such a wonderful and inspiring book.
