Resources to Help Treat Anxiety in Children

By | August 4th, 2016|Categories: Parenting|Tags: , |

Things were great at school, until one day things changed. In the middle of 2nd grade, my straight-A, brilliant little boy started begging me not to send him to school. Begging, pleading, crying, sobbing…It was heartbreaking.  He had always loved school and had done really well.  But I found myself in a situation that I had no idea how to fix.  He was suddenly struggling with anxiety and I just wanted him to feel better. As parents, we fix things and there are few things as heartbreaking to a parent as watching your child struggle with something that you can’t fix! 1 in 8 children experience some sort of anxiety disorder while they are young.  Luckily, there are several resources that are designed to help treat anxiety in children. Treat Anxiety in Children If you have an anxious child, then you know about the constant worry that comes with nearly every situation.  “What if I miss the bus?” “What if I don’t hear my alarm clock in the morning?” “What if I don’t have someone to sit by at lunch?” “What if I get sick?” What if…what if…what if….   […]

This post is sponsored by Speakaboos.  All opinions are my own. When I was young my grandma would give us books for every birthday and Christmas and on several occasions in between.  She continued that tradition with my boys until she passed away. Books are a huge part of our life and I started reading to my boys as soon as I possibly could.  We also love that different reading apps for kids make it so we can take books and stories with us wherever we go. Our favorite reading app for kids is Speakaboos. Speakaboos: Reading App for Kids […]

Things I Wish I Had Known Before Having Kids

By | April 19th, 2016|Categories: Parenting|Tags: , , , |

I’ve been a mom for what feels like a long time now.  It’s hard to look back at the time when my first son was born and even remember what that time was like.  I know I was completely clueless! But I loved that little boy with a love I didn’t know existed.  Looking back, it’s hard to know what I would have told myself to prepare for being a mom. Or if I would have just wanted to stay naive and take each day and each challenge as it came. When I asked my Moms of Boys community, “What Do You Know Now, That You Wish You Would Have Known Before Having Kids?”, I loved all of the answers. Things I Wish I Had Known Before Having Kids When I asked moms to share the things they wish they had known before having kids, I love that some moms were content with being naive and learning along the way, and other moms have some pretty real, yet funny responses to what they wish they would have known before having kids.  Life with kids is definitely an adventure and there is something to be learned every single day and through every stage your child goes through. I started reading to my children as soon as they were born.  We would look at colorful books with animals, shapes and textures, and reading time before bed has always been a fun bonding time for me with my boys.  So naturally, they each got to an age where they wanted to read by themselves (my 4-year-old is just starting).  Knowing where to find early reader book sets that kids will enjoy, and not get frustrated with, is a challenge.  But, I have a few ideas that I have helped my boys become really great readers.  Check out this list of early reader book sets your child will love. Early Reader Book Sets Getting boys excited about reading is a known struggle among parents and educators.  Lots of times, boys just don’t like to read, which is sad.  I’ve shared some of my tips and tricks for helping boys to love reading and these early reader book sets really started my boys on a path where they really enjoy reading. Ideas for Organizing Toys

By | April 6th, 2016|Categories: Household, Parenting|

Do you ever feel as though toys are taking over your house?  Having a home full of boys means my house can be in complete chaos in the toy department. Honestly, it’s one of the hardest things to deal with. I’m always looking for ideas for organizing toys.  I could scoop up all of the toys, throw them away, and not care one bit. However, my boys love their toys. I figure it’s important that we come to some solution so that they can keep their toys and I can keep my sanity. I asked the Moms of Boys Facebook group how they keep their toys organized. I really see some great answers in there and I look forward to applying some of these principles to our home. Check out these great ideas for organizing toys. […]
