I didn’t get a Monday motivation up yesterday because we were busy celebrating a birthday!! I seriously can NOT believe how fast my kids are growing up. They need to stop it! Since we are now in October, this big guy loves to have Halloween cakes for his birthday. Later this week I’ll post a couple different Halloween cakes we have done as well, but this year was all about the creepy crawly spiders! Maybe because he just finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Who knows? But this is what he wanted:
I really love how this turned out. The cake was really pretty easy. I baked the body of the spider in a Pyrex bowl and for the head I used a cupcake that I unwrapped and rounded off with a knife.
I baked the cake as directed on the box and then cooled and frosted with chocolate frosting. As I frosted, I covered the body with smashed up Oreo cookies.
We then used chocolate licorice for the legs, cherry candy for the eyes, rope licorice for the mouth and candy corn for the fangs. I had to put a glob of frosting by the base of each leg of the spider to get them to stay put on the tray and I used white frosting to make the web before putting the cake and cupcake on it.
We made the cupcakes pretty much the same way with rope licorice used for the legs.
Spiderific!!

It will be interesting to see what kind of cake he asks for next year since I’m running out of Halloween cake ideas.
