I have been part of an accountability group on Facebook this past month as I try to lost these last few pesky baby pounds and this week we were asked to share one of our favorite motivational quotes with the group. This one automatically jumped out at me and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t used it as a Monday Motivation before. “If you really want to do something you’ll find a way, if not you’ll find an excuse.” True words, right?
Find a way or find an excuse.
These words apply to pretty much every area of our lives. If I really want a clean house, I’ll find a way to get it. I can’t guarantee how long it will stay clean but I can get it done if I really want to. (This coming from someone who really dislikes housework!) If I want to lose a few pounds, I can find a way to do it. It’s not easy but everyone can do it with hard work. If I want to have a successful marriage, I have to work at it and make it happen. If I want to fulfill a dream or goal that I’ve always had, I can either find a way or an excuse. It’s as easy as that. Maybe you’ve always wanted to have your own successful business. There are a million excuses of why something might not work but instead of focusing on those, find a way to make it happen. Most of the time we are the only obstacle holding us back from accomplishing whatever it is we want.
So what are some of those excuses?
“I don’t have time”
“The kids will just mess it up again.”
“I planned the last date night, it’s his turn.”
“I don’t want to fail.”
“I’ll just gain the weight back like I did last time.”
“I’m too tired.”
“I probably won’t be able to do it anyways.”
“But fast food is just so much easier.”
“I don’t know how to start a business. This is crazy!”
And on and on and on and on.
It seems that once we let one little excuse make its way in that the ball of excuses gets rolling and before we know it we are completely off track and have forgotten what we wanted in the first place.
Think about your life for a minute and point out one thing that you really want to do but for some reason have been holding yourself back. What excuses are you allowing to creep into your head? They might be there without you even noticing. And then ask yourself if you really want to let that negative voice in your head have control over your life or if you want to take control over it and find a way to make positive things happen.
Have a great Monday! Let’s find a way to make positive things happen this week!
