A few weeks ago I posted a Monday Motivation titled How to be Happy which was basically saying that we need to stop trying to be perfect and enjoy the life that we have, not the one we think we want and we need to stop waiting for some future date or accomplishment to allow ourselves to be happy.
Since that post I’ve had an eye-opening experience in regards to finding daily happiness. I was invited to be a pioneer for a website called Happify. Basically Happify is a new website based on the science behind what makes people happy. It provides daily activities that allow you to stop and focus on the things in your life that bring you happiness and it helps you to savor the daily experiences that you have and then share those with other people who are also sharing their happy moments as well. It is so nice to not see all of the negativity that you find on other social networks. Happify is currently invite-only but read to the bottom and I have a little gift for a few people.
How to be Happy
I had no idea that there are so many people struggling to find happiness but I did a little research and found that over 55.6 million, yes MILLION people search the terms “How to be happy” or “Be happy” online each month! That actually breaks my heart.
It really is something we all struggle with at some point in our life. But why is happiness so hard to find? Why is it so fleeting?
We all have those moments when everything seems great in our world but those can be followed by moments when we are in the trenches and we just don’t know how we’re going to pull ourselves out. It stinks! I hate days like that. But as I’ve thought about what really makes people happy I’ve come to understand that too often we are focusing too much on trying to find happiness through “things” instead of finding ways to be at peace with what we have and have inner joy. There is a difference between happiness and joy/peace. I think the main difference is that happiness can be fleeting. It can come and go depending on the situations that happen to us but that’s why I am loving Happify. It makes me stop and appreciate the little things in life that make me happy and focus on finding ways to be happy, even if I have bigger things in life bringing me down.
One of my ABSOLUTE favorite quotes, and that is saying a lot because if you know me, you know I love quotes, is by Abraham Lincoln. I first heard this quote back in Jr High School and I wrote it down and it has always stuck with me:
Do you agree with this quote? Can we make up our minds to just be happy?
Great news for anyone wanting to become a Happify Pioneer. I have 5 invites to anyone who may be wanting to take the time more often to focus on being happy. If you would like to be a part of this new happy network, leave a comment and I will hook you up with an invite.
