Do your kids love making music? If you don’t know how to make a kazoo, it is super simple! This was one of my favorite things to do as a kid.
How to Make a Kazoo
These totally brought me back to being a kid again! What kid doesn’t like a kazoo?? And what mom actually does like their kids to have a kazoo? Ok, just kidding. My house is already loud so I figure, what the heck, they’re making music. 😉 So in this post I teach you how to make a kazoo with supplies you have around the house. Ready? It literally takes just a couple of seconds.
These are so easy to make.
Supplies needed to make a kazoo:
Toilet Paper rolls
paint or markers (optional, but fun!)
I let my kids paint and decorate their toilet paper roll.
(And for the record, do not leave a 4-year-old unattended with paint, even for a quick minute and even when you think that since he just turned 4 that his 3-year-old tricks are now in the past. Unless of course you are really wanting a Van Gogh on your kitchen floor. Which is what I got when I came back. He had dropped his paints and decided, “What the heck, it’s already spilled, let’s make a masterpiece!” I wish I had taken a picture now but in the moment I really just wanted it to come off my kitchen floor.)
Then just cut a square of wax paper and wrap it over the end of the tp roll and secure with a rubber band.
Then let your kids hum or sing into them and make music to their heart’s content or until your ears can’t take it anymore. When that time comes just send them outside to play for the neighbors. After all, that’s what summertime is for right?
It couldn’t be easier to make a kazoo! And kids really do love them.

Thanks so much for the instructions! I vaguely remembered these from childhood. My daughter wants a band themed second birthday, so it looks like I’ll be making a bunch of these for all of her little pals. (I’m thinking of using stickers to decorate though…I’ve been there with the paint on the floor thing…?)
What a fun idea for a party and stickers are a great idea!! Or you could even wrap paper around them and tape it. Yeah, the paint was a mess, but he had lots of fun. 😉
Does parchment paper work?
What a cute and fun craft! Perfect for kids 🙂
What kid wouldn’t have a blast with these? I love this idea. Thanks for sharing your craft with us at Merry Monday this week!
You are a great mom. The end.
Thank you for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday. We are thrilled to have you. Pinning 🙂
I did this yesterday with my Wolf Den for their Air Wolf elective to make a wind instrument. It was perfect. Thanks for sharing this project.
Wonderful! I’m so glad it was perfect! My boys love to make these kazoos.

We are having a “Music Week” at our school soon. It is an all boys school in South Africa. I think we are going to be making instruments sometime in the week. Thank you for the idea.
I love this! My boys have a lot of fun with these Kazoos.
