The Invisible Mom – What You Are Building When No One Sees

Do you ever feel like an invisible mom? As though the things you do and the efforts you make as a mother go unnoticed?  Today I share my experiences as well as a beautiful message from Nicole Johnson about what you are really building when no one sees. (I originally posted this as one of my first blog posts in 2012 but wanted to re-share it with you since this story helped me through a difficult time in my life.)  The Invisible Mom Not long ago I thought I had my life pretty much figured out.  Ever had that feeling?  The feeling that you finally know exactly how you want your life to go and what you want to do with your life.  You feel content and you look at the future and begin to make plans to reach your goals.  You think that everything will fall into place and then…you blink and one second later nothing goes as planned.  Everything that at one point was so right for you suddenly becomes so wrong for you and everything you thought you wanted is suddenly NOT what you want. About 6 months ago my life did a 180°.   I pretty much had my life planned out but then I was reminded that life doesn’t always go as planned and that isn’t always a bad thing. Monday Motivation: America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful This weekend we took a little road trip to visit family and celebrate the Memorial Day weekend together.  I took this little trip as an opportunity to really un-plug a bit and spend some quality time with the people who mean the most to me. I love this song above.  I am so thankful to live in this beautiful country and even more than that, I am so thankful for those who made it possible for us to be free. About 13 years ago I had the opportunity to visit Normandy, France and as I stood on the cliffs above the ocean where our troops stormed the beaches I had a strong realization that we shouldn’t have won that battle.  The cliffs were straight down and the German soldiers were at the top shooting down at our troops as they tried to advance.  After seeing that view you have to realize that God was in charge that day.  He was there with the troops who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms and he was there to strengthen those who made it to the top without their fellow soldiers.  He was there to guide those planning each strategic move and He was there with those who were praying to be released from the bondage and horrors they were facing at the hands of evil men. Monday Motivation: The Military Mama

Since today is Memorial Day, I wanted to write something that shows my appreciation to those who are serving or who have served in the military.  Their courage and willingness to sacrifice everything is something that I cannot comprehend but am incredibly beyond grateful for. And behind many soldiers is the wife and the mother to their children.   Those moms who silently sacrifice behind closed doors and expect no worldly recognition for the difficult job THEY are asked to do. Today I want to give a tribute to those moms who are at home raising their little ones while their husbands are oceans away from home, putting themselves in harm’s way and who are willing to give everything for the nation that they love.  I want to say a huge “Thank You” to those moms who don’t just have the normal worries that come with having children but have those worries multiplied on a daily basis as they think about the safety of their husbands. Monday Motivation:They Lied to Me

Mama and My Boys I hope all mothers had a wonderful day yesterday on Mother’s day. My boys made me breakfast and gave me gifts of homemade cards and jewelry and my husband bought me some desert flowers to plant along the side of our house where our strawberries decided they couldn’t stand the heat.  Oh, and he even planted them, which is much better than receiving flowers and then having to plant them myself.   But let’s be honest,  the day after Mother’s Day may seem like somewhat of a let down when the pampering ends and it’s back to reality. When I was a single girl in college I came across the following story that I have saved over all these years.  I pull it out on those days when I start to wonder if what I am trying to do as a mother is really making a difference and if sacrificing a more glamorous type of lifestyle for dishes, laundry and piles of messes was really worth it. They Lied to Me About Life… by Jaroldeen Edwards bestselling author […]
