Last month we threw the Ultimate Sports Party for my now 7-year-old and we had lots of fun using some of the pool noodle activities I shared on the blog last summer as well as this new pool noodle goal post. I turned to my handy, dandy husband and asked him to come up with some sort of goal post to be used in a field goal kicking competition and this is what he came up with. (We’re so lucky to have him around. 🙂 )
I’ll try my best to give a good description of how this was made but if I leave something out or don’t explain something very well, leave me a comment and I’ll have my husband answer. Sound good?
How to Make a Pool Noodle Goal Post
Supplies needed:
- 10 ft length PVC pipe (3/4″ diameter)
- 3/4″ PVC Tee joint
- 2 each 3/4″ PVC elbow joint
- PVC Glue
- 3-4 pool noodles (make sure to check the diameter of the hole so that it will fit over the PVC pipe. Some have different sizes of holes.
- 1/2″ diameter dowel to pound into the ground.
Step 1: Cut the PVC . You will need one 3 ft length, two 24″ length and two 18″ length. The 3 ft length will be used for the base, the 18″ length for the width and the 24″ for each of the uprights.
Step 2: Use PVC glue to attach the Tee joint. Let the glue dry.
Step 3: Once the glue is dried, cut your pool noodles to the length you need and slide them on to the “T” you just made. The glue the elbow joints on to form the uprights.
Step 4: Allow glue to dry and add the rest of the pool noodles. We used a longer length of pool noodles on the uprights just to make it taller and it worked well.
Step 5: If you want to, you can cut a slit in the pool noodle so that it will slide down and cover the entire PVC joint.
Step 6: Pound the dowel into the ground and slide the goal post over the dowel. Then you are ready for hours of play!

I loooove this really cool idea. I have a nehpew who is the same age as me- 24! And he loves playing football and as he happens to have a 7month old It’s nice an soft so he doesn’t get hurt. I might build this for him for his Christmas!!! (I still have plenty of pool noodles)
