Fun things for dads and boys to build together

DIY LEGO Table

One year for Christmas, Santa brought my older boys a foldable/storable LEGO table and it has had constant use since then.  But, the saying, “Two’s company, three’s a crowd” tends to apply with my three oldest boys and my younger boys were feeling a bit left out.  So, Santa did not disappoint and brought them their very own LEGO tables. If you are looking for a DIY LEGO Table, this is easy to make! DIY LEGO Table […]

Build Your Own Tank Craft Giveaway!

I cannot tell you how excited my boys were to open a box from the mail and find this fun Build Your Own Tank craft from CraftProjectIdeas.com!  They were starting to get a major case of end-of-summer boredom and they went right to work building their tank. I have been really busy the past month preparing for some major exams and my boys were starting to get sick of me being unavailable for the types of projects we normally do so this couldn’t have come at a better time. CraftProjectIdeas.com has come out with a fun new line of boy crafts (THANK YOU!) that replace the glitter and girlie you find in most project kits with rockets and camouflage.  If you have followed me for any amount of time you will know that one of the reasons I started this blog was to share more craft ideas for boys. DIY Pool Noodle Goal Post

Last month we threw the Ultimate Sports Party for my now 7-year-old and we had lots of fun using some of the pool noodle activities I shared on the blog last summer as well as this new pool noodle goal post.  I turned to my handy, dandy husband and asked him to come up with some sort of goal post to be used in a field goal kicking competition and this is what he came up with.  (We’re so lucky to have him around. 🙂 ) I’ll try my best to give a good description of how this was made but if I leave something out or don’t explain something very well, leave me a comment and I’ll have my husband answer.  Sound good? Photo Block Pencil Holder

This week I received a box with Mod Podge Washout and Apple Barrel paint which I was so excited to use with my kids.   I love Mod Podge but I don’t normally let my kids use it because of the mess involved but Mod Podge Washout is pretty much the same great formula as Mod Podge gloss but it washes out of clothes with just soap and water, even after it has dried.  Bonus!  That makes it perfect for craft projects at home or school. How to Make an Easy Lego Table

You know that Santa is a pretty smart fella!  He knew that if he brought my boys the LEGO sets they were wanting then they would need a Lego table to build them on so little brother couldn’t get them.  We love our smaller LEGO table, but this one makes it so everyone can play together. How to Build a LEGO Table But, knowing that we don’t have the room for a permanent Lego table, he brought us one that not only folds flat, but folds in half as well.  That Santa is a smarty pants indeed.  After inspecting the table I thought I would try and let you know how he built it. 😉 […]

Solar Oven: The School Project That Could Save Your Life

How to Make a Solar Oven Okay, so hopefully it will never be needed to save our lives, but if we are ever without power for a long period of time, I now know that because of our new solar oven we will not go hungry, or without cookies. 😉 We finished our final school project of the year last week.  The project was to create something out of mostly recycled materials and after searching the internet, my 2nd grader chose to make a solar cooker out of cardboard boxes, aluminum foil and a large oven bag or “The Super Solar Oven” as he named it.   My husband and son spent a couple of nights working on this and then he had to present it to the class as if he were trying to sell it. He won first place for his advertisement and much to my amazement, one of the teachers at the school said that she has one of these that she makes bread in every summer.  Really? I have got to try that!!  I knew our desert sun had to be useful for something.  I thought this was just a silly little project but once I heard that it could actually cook, I had to give it a try.   So, I didn’t make bread but I thought I’d try some pan cookies.  […]

Angry Birds Birthday Party Games

Angry Birds Birthday Party Games I shared our Angry Birds birthday party food ideas yesterday but when you know you have 15  six-year olds coming to a party you make sure to have lots of Angry Birds birthday party games.  And what Angry Birds party could be complete without a life-size Angry Bird game? My husband painted dodge balls to look like birds and bouncy balls for the pigs. And he made an awesome Angry Birds slingshot to use to shoot the balls at the pigs. Tutorial still to come. We had all of the neighbors save their cardboard boxes for us to use. It was a bit windy so we couldn’t make it as big as we wanted since it kept blowing down.  But the boys had a lot of fun knocking down and building back up this Angry Birds game. […]
