Road Trip Books Kids Will Love
We are preparing to head out on a grand adventure across the United States and as I have been preparing to entertain 4 boys in an RV for two weeks (Am I crazy??), I have been looking into different books that will keep them entertained and also educate them about some of the National Parks we will be visiting and other locations along the way. With these road trip books, kids will be stay entertained and they just might learn a thing or two which is always a plus!
Road Atlas for Kids
National Geographic Kids Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas
National Geographic Kids has an awesome book called Ultimate US Road Trip Atlas for kids. This book is FULL of maps, games, activities and more that will add hours of fun to the backseat.
I love that it gives interesting facts about each state in the United States with an accompanying map, and that the back of the book is full of scavenger hunts, trivia games, and more to help keep boredom at bay.
My boys love reading about some of the silly laws that are still on the books in each state, and looking up roadside attractions that they then will try and convince us to stop at as we are traveling. It is a fun book that shares a lot of information that you may not have known about.

National Parks Books: Kids
If you have plans to visit the many National Parks found in the United States, these are some GREAT National Parks books kids will enjoy reading! They will help your kids learn as you travel. Plus, they are entertaining and full of information that will get your kids excited about your vacation.
National Parks Guide for Kids
My oldest sons have read this book cover to cover and are working on planning many National Parks adventures! The National Parks Guide U.S.A is the kids’ companion to the popular National Geographic Guide to National Parks of the United States. It is broken down into the different regions of the United States and has information about each National Park, including information about the different hikes you can do there, what types of animals you will see and where to find the best views.
National Parks: Kid’s Activities Books
One of our favorite things about visiting the National Parks is getting our kids involved in the Junior Ranger Program. They love earning badges at each of the parks and the Junior Ranger Activity Book is completely full of puzzles, games, facts and more information that will supplement what they learn in the Junior Ranger program at each park.
My boys also love the National Geographic Funny Fill-In books. My National Parks Adventure is a silly book in which kids add in nouns, adjectives, verbs, etc to make some of the silliest stories you can imagine. There are also books based on other adventures such as My Ocean Adventure and My Rain Forest Adventure.
And if you are visiting Yellowstone National Park, Buddy Bison’s Yellowstone adventure is a great way for kids to learn about the park. It is a fictional story that takes two siblings on an adventure through Yellowstone. The book is a combination of real photographs and cute illustrations that are really engaging to kids.
