15 Resolutions Every Mom Should Make

It’s that time of year again.  We reflect on the year past and resolve to do things differently in the year to come.  This year, why not try some of these Resolutions That Every Mom Should Make.   15 Resolutions Every Mom Should Make For most of us it is the same thing every year.  A new year rolls around and we look at our life and try and find things that we can improve on for the next year.  We set goals and we try to find ways to reach our goals.   Did you know that statistics show that by the first week of February, 92% of New Year’s resolutions have already failed?  Maybe it is because we are focusing our attention on the wrong things.  Maybe we look in the mirror and try and focus on changing the things we can see instead of the things that are deep inside and hidden from view. We focus on “dusting” the things on the surface when really we need to deep clean. I’ve put together 15 resolutions every mom should make to help her be happy and ultimately healthy.  […]

The Invisible Mom – What You Are Building When No One Sees

Do you ever feel like an invisible mom? As though the things you do and the efforts you make as a mother go unnoticed?  Today I share my experiences as well as a beautiful message from Nicole Johnson about what you are really building when no one sees. (I originally posted this as one of my first blog posts in 2012 but wanted to re-share it with you since this story helped me through a difficult time in my life.)  The Invisible Mom Not long ago I thought I had my life pretty much figured out.  Ever had that feeling?  The feeling that you finally know exactly how you want your life to go and what you want to do with your life.  You feel content and you look at the future and begin to make plans to reach your goals.  You think that everything will fall into place and then…you blink and one second later nothing goes as planned.  Everything that at one point was so right for you suddenly becomes so wrong for you and everything you thought you wanted is suddenly NOT what you want. About 6 months ago my life did a 180°.   I pretty much had my life planned out but then I was reminded that life doesn’t always go as planned and that isn’t always a bad thing. Seeing Christmas Through the Eyes of My Children

Every year I make a promise to myself that NEXT year Christmastime will be different.  NEXT year at Christmas I won’t over-schedule myself or leave things until last minute.  NEXT year I will simplify and have more time to really enjoy the holidays.  NEXT year my shopping will be done early.  NEXT year I will leave more time for serving those in need.   But then next year comes and nothing has changed.  THIS year I am overwhelmed!   I looked at my calendar and I have something almost every day AND night until Christmas.  Realizing that made my panic mode set in.  I hate the feeling of anxiety that comes when I realize I just might not be able to get everything done, when all I really want to do is put my feet up and sip hot chocolate while listening to Christmas music. So through the chaos, how can we find joy during the holidays? How can I be a happy mom when I am being pulled in so many different directions? I think the answer is simple and right in front of me. I need to start seeing Christmas through my children’s eyes. Seeing Christmas Through the Eyes of My Children […]

Enjoy Life – Monday Motivation

I’ve always been a goal setter.  I like to sit down quite often and plan out the things I want to accomplish or the things I would like to see happen in my life.    But, I think because I like to make plans for the future and I like to work towards those plan, that I forget that life is pretty great right NOW.  I often find myself getting down or depressed over what hasn’t happened instead of taking the time to look around me and see the amazing blessings I have been given. I came across this quote yesterday and it made me stop in my tracks and realize that I am pushing away so much happiness because I am always looking to the future instead of being in the moment. Enjoy Life: Monday Motivation How often do we say…”When ______ happens, then I’ll be happy.”  Or if I get that job, or if we get that promotion, then we’ll be happy.  When we can afford a bigger house, or that dream vacation,  then I’ll be happy.  When the kids are old enough to butter their own bread, wipe their own bottom or pour their own milk, then I’ll be happy. When I no longer hear, Mom, mom, mom, MOM, MOM!!, 5, 793 times a day, then I’ll be happy.  […]

Finding Joy

There are certain times in your life when you meet someone and know that they were brought into your life for a reason.  I had one of those moments this past weekend when, at a blogging conference, I discovered I was sitting next to Rachel Martin, the author of the website Finding Joy. I try to write motivational things on my blog every Monday, but to be honest, sometimes I’m just not feeling very motivational. Just like every other mom out there, I have days where I just need to have someone tell me I’m doing okay.  I need to go somewhere to just feel like someone gets my life and to feel like I’m not a complete and utter failure at motherhood. I need to have someone tell me that it’s okay that I have dirty dishes in the sink and that I’m up to my elbows in laundry.  I’m having more and more of those days lately and then I have moments when I have to stop and laugh because I see my life and my 4 boys and I think, “When did this happen? There is no way that I am a mom to 4 human beings!!” A few months ago I came across an article that was spreading across the internet entitled: “Dear Mom Who Feels Like She is Failing.”  I read it and I cried and immediately printed it out to read over and over again.  I had no idea at that time that several months down the road,  while sitting in a conference room in California with 50+ other bloggers, that my world would collide with that one mom who had penned the words that had sunk so deep into my heart that I would turn to them for reassurance time and time again. […]

Mind Organization for Moms – Giveaway

Somewhere in my very distant memory I can remember a time when my life was a lot more simple.   I had more flexibility with my time and my house was actually clean!  But, then I added 4 bundles of joy to my life and things are vastly different now.  Not in a bad way, but just different.  I tell my boys all the time that I gave each of them a little bit of my brain when they were born so I’m not left with much.  That is why I sometimes forget to wash their favorite shirt or make their school lunches.  That is why I can’t remember where I put things most of the time; they took my brain! […]

You are Important

A few years ago I attended a conference in Salt Lake City.  The key-note speaker for the conference was Meg Johnson, one of the cutest, funniest and most inspirational people I have ever had the chance to listen to.  Meg became paralyzed in a tragic accident 10+ years ago and I could write all day about the things I learned from her but the main message I took away is that it is important to realize how important you are to someone else. […]

Monday Motivation: 10 Ways to Simplify Your Life

10 Ways to Simplify Your Life I’ve seen several friends posts a motivational word that they wanted to use as a guide for 2014.  I really had no plans of specifically finding a word but then one just jumped out at me.  I was cleaning up my Christmas decor and putting out our other items and came across the above sign.  I’ve had it for years and it has sat on the same shelf in my kitchen but for some reason I didn’t realize its significance until this week.  Simplify.  That is my word!  That is the word I need more than any other word this year.  I find myself a frazzled mess most of the time and it is time to stop trying to do everything and focus on what is really important: Faith, family, and my health. And in a funny twist of events, the main message in church yesterday was about simplifying our lives to focus on the things that are most important.  Yep, this is my word.   And as I’ve been thinking about it, I’ve come up with 10 ways to simplify your life, all things that are easy, yet hard to do. […]
