It’s a bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Superman Cake!
Superman Cake
I knew that eventually one of my boys would ask for a Superhero birthday party and the year finally came. My son just turned 7 and his main request was for a Superman Cake and Superhero party. I’m definitely NOT a cake decorator, but I try to do simple birthday cakes my boys will love and this one didn’t disappoint.

How to Make a Superman Cake
To make this Superman Cake you need the following ingredients:
- Cake Mix or recipe of your choice – We used a plain Chocolate Cake mix.
- Blue Frosting
- Red Frosting
- Yellow Frosting
- Cake Stand (optional but fun) See how we made our DIY Cake Stand for only a few dollars or here are a few fun ones I have found online.
Mix up the cake and bake in two round cake pans according to the directions on the package or recipe. Make sure to grease and flour the pan generously or spray pans with non-stick cooking spray.
Check if your cake is done by inserting toothpick into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean, it is done. Let cakes cook and remove from pan onto cooling rack until completely cool.
Place one of the cakes in the center of cake stand or whatever pan you are planning to display it on. Put a layer of blue frosting on top and layer the second layer on top. Frost the entire cake with blue frosting.
Using decorator bags with star tips or frosting that comes with a tip, make stars around the outside of the cake, alternating around red and yellow. You do this by putting the tip right next to the cake, squeezing out the frosting and then quickly pulling the tip away. I’m not perfect at making the stars, but the Superman cake still looked good.
Then the most difficult part was making the Superman logo on the cake. I looked at a logo online and then used a knife to draw out the basic outline of the logo. I then filled it in with red and yellow frosting stars. It doesn’t look perfect, but my little man loved it! He was so excited and said that his Superman Cake was exactly what he was wanting. That makes the effort all worth it!
